Making (Paper) History
20 10 2009

When Dalton Paper approached us to handle the management, design and marketing of their 2010 student calendar competition we were rather excited. For those not in the design industry, the opportunity to work with a paper supplier is pretty cool, especially as we were given a completely open brief.
As 2010 will be Dalton's 60th year of operation we decided that the competition should be centered around the history of paper making and that students should develop a piece of design inspired by a person, piece of technology or moment in this history. To kick off the competition we developed a series of three posters, each focusing in on an important figure in paper making history:
Cai Lun - the inventor of paper
Johann Gutenberg – the inventor of the printing press
Charles Fenerty - the inventor of Paper made of wood pulp
These posters were backed up by an email marketing campaign to colleges directing students to apply online line, upload their entries and check out their fellow applicants artwork.
The competition closes mid-November 2009 so stay tuned for the results and let us know if you'd like a calendar :-)
